The number of people killed in the Russian missile strike on Kyiv in the early hours of July 31 has risen to 31, according to the most recent update shared on Telegram by Tymur Tkachenko, head of the city’s military administration.
“Search operations continued through the night and are still underway. Recovery of victims' bodies is ongoing in the Sviatoshynskyi District,” Tkachenko said.
Among the dead are three children aged 2, 6, and 17. 159 people were injured, including 16 children, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.
Rescuers and emergency services are continuing to clear debris at the site of the destroyed residential building in Kyiv’s Sviatoshynskyi District, where a missile leveled an entire section of a multi-story apartment block. As of the latest update, 174 people have been reported injured, including 14 children.
As noted by the independent Russian investigative outlet Agentstvo (lit. “The Agency”), this marks the second time since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion that a direct strike has completely destroyed a section of a residential building in Kyiv. The first occurred on June 17, killing 28 and injuring 134.
The deadliest single attack on Kyiv remains the July 8 strike on the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital, which left 33 people dead.
